NFL controversy? Refs seemingly fail to notice missed field goal attempt hit camera cable

presented by toyota

NFL fans were watching the game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Cleveland Browns as the two teams battled in London today.

During the game, Vikings kicker Will Reichard missed a field goal wide to the right. At first, it simply looked like a missed kick from Reichard.

However, on closer look, there was a reason why he missed the kick as the ball appeared to hit a camera cable and ricochet to the right.

Here’s a clip from the broadcast:

Will The Thill Reichard's 51-yard field goal attempt pretty clearly hit the wire. Causing it to go from being straight down the middle to violently veering to the right.

Would have resulted in a re-kick.

The Vikings won the game, so the NFL seems to have dodged what would have otherwise been a major scandal.

Reichard was 8-8 on the season before that kick, and that is his first miss of the season. Last year as a rookie, he had a solid year going 24-of-30 on field goals, and has made every extra point he has attempted in two years.

Before being drafted with the 203rd pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by Minnesota, he was a kicker at Alabama from 2019-2023. He finished his career 84-100 on field goals at Alabama, and is the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer with 547 points.
