3 instant impressions from Seahawks’ walkoff loss to Buccaneers

The Seahawks three-game winning streak came to an end following a 38-35 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at Lumen Field.

Here are a few impressions.

Sam Darnold was dealing

Against a depleted Buccaneers secondary missing injured cornerbacks Benjamin Morrison (hamstring) and Jamel Dean (hip), Darnold delivered a magnificent performance in which he threw for 341 yards and four touchdowns on 28-of-34 passing.

Seahawks lose shootout with Bucs on late interception by Sam Darnold

The Seahawks offensive line didn’t allow a sack and gave Darnold time for one of his best outings since joining the Seahawks this season.

On one of the game’s biggest plays — a fourth-and-two attempt in the final four minutes — Darnold stepped out of a tackle in the backfield and found receiver Tory Horton for a 21-yard touchdown pass.

Baker Mayfield wasn’t too shabby either

Mayfield was equally masterful against a Seahawks secondary that was missing cornerback Devon Witherspoon (knee) and safety Julian Love (hamstring) and lost cornerback Riq Woolen (possible concussion) in the third quarter.

Mayfield threw for a season-high 379 yards on 29-of-33 passing, including two touchdowns.

One critical error

Darnold was great until the very end when he was pressured on a throw that hit off the helmet of Buccaneers defensive tackle Logan Hall and intercepted by linebacker Lavonte David with 58 seconds left.

Five plays later, Buccaneers kicker Chase McLaughlin booted a 39-yard, game-winning field goal as time expired.
