Before the 2025 season, cornerback Carlton Davis had spent his NFL career in the NFC. But the former Auburn cornerback saw enough of quarterback Josh Allen in three interconference games to know what the New England Patriots are up against when they square off with the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night.
Allen completed 90-of-128 passes for 994 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions and ran for 218 yards and four touchdowns on 30 carries in the three contests – two against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and one against the Detroit Lions.
“He can extend plays,” Davis said of Allen. “He’s a playmaker. I think that’s what he does best is make plays. He just has a lot in his arsenal -- throwing, running, extending the play and just getting guys open with his legs. …
“It’s just that’s real football. It’s not nothing schemed up. It’s not anything that you’re, you know, game-planning. It’s just out there playing backyard football. And I don’t want to like downplay it, but it’s real football. It’s like just running out there throwing the ball. And you can tell that he really loves the game.”

Davis joined the Patriots as a free agent in March for a three-year, $54 million contract, and he’s looking forward to taking on Allen and the Bills in an AFC East rivalry game. Buffalo has won the division title for five consecutive seasons and is off to a 4-0 start in 2025.
“Hell, yeah, bro, like, that’s the best thing about it,” Davis said of the opportunity to take down the Bills. “That’s the best part because once you, like, knock them off, so much momentum behind that, so much hype comes with that, it’s just, like, that’s why you play the game, to beat the best, compete against the best. So that’s the beauty of this week. And I know all the guys in here are prepared for it.”
After winning four games in each of the past two seasons, the Patriots have a 2-2 record in 2025 coming off a 42-13 victory over the Carolina Panthers last week.
“Every week is a different week, you know?” Davis said. “I think that’s the biggest thing is not carrying on from what you did last week into this week. Like, this is a whole new stage, a different game. Like, whatever we did last week doesn’t matter. What matters is what we do in this game. And that’s the key to stacking wins, for sure.”
The Patriots and Bills kick off at 7:20 p.m. CDT Sunday at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. NBC will televise the game.

“It’s about to be so fun, bro,” Davis said. “It’s about to be a movie, for real. It’s about to be nice. It’s going to be lit. ‘Sunday Night Football,’ division game, and they’ve been running the division the last couple years, so it’s going to be fun to go out there and compete, for sure.”
