Game Recap: Chargers Falter in Week 5 Home Loss to Commanders

The Chargers are 3-2 after a 27-10 loss to the Commanders on Sunday.

Here's a game recap from Week 5.

### **Turning Point**

The Chargers raced out to an early 10-0 lead and were looking for more as they were in Washington territory almost halfway through the second quarter.

But the tide quickly turned for the Bolts as Quentin Johnston lost a fumble on the edge of the red zone to give Washington possession.

The Commanders soon faced third and 16 but the Chargers defense couldn't get off the field.

Things only snowballed from there as the Bolts allowed a touchdown before the offense punted after a quick possession. JK Scott's punt was downed at the 7-yard line and it appeared the Bolts would get the ball back after a third-down stop.

But a personal foul on Marlowe Wax for roughing the kicker gave Washington new life as it soon tied the game on a field goal before halftime.

The Chargers then allowed the Commanders to score on opening-drive touchdown to start the third quarter before the Bolts offense was plagued by penalties on their ensuing drive.

The Chargers hit a 23-yard pass on second-and-19 ... but it was called back for holding.

The Bolts then hit a 31-yard pass on second-and-28 ... but it was called back for an illegal formation infraction.

Backed up at their own 5 and facing second-and-33, the Chargers soon punted, which led to another Commanders field goal as the Bolts gave up 20 unanswered points.

The Chargers missed a chance to get back into the game late in the third quarter when they went for it on fourth-and-2 at the Washington 39, but Justin Herbert's pass was dropped by Tyler Conklin.
