Former Alabama All-American gets his first NFL interception

New Orleans Saints cornerback Ga’Quincy “Kool-Aid” McKinstry entered Sunday’s game against the New York Giants with no interceptions in his NFL career. When the contest ended, McKinstry had two interceptions and the Saints had their first victory of the 2025 season.

A second-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, McKinstry had played 19 games without an interception before picking off New York quarterback Jaxson Dart twice in New Orleans’ 26-14 victory at Caesar’s Superdome on Sunday.

McKinstry got both his interceptions in the fourth quarter after the Saints rallied from a 14-3 deficit to a 26-14 lead.

McKinstry picked off a long pass intended for wide receiver Jalin Hyatt at the New Orleans 5-yard line with 9:57 to play for his first career interception.

On the Giants’ next possession, McKinstry intercepted a short pass intended for wide receiver Beaux Collins at the New York 45-yard line with 5:07 to play.

McKinstry’s two-interception game was the 66th time that a former Alabama player has intercepted at least two passes in a single NFL game. Don Hutson accounted for eight of those games.

The record for interceptions in an NFL game by an Alabama alumnus is four by Russ Craft in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 45-7 victory over the Chicago Cardinals on Sept. 24, 1950.

Before he earned All-American recognition from The Associated Press and The Sporting News in 2023 at Alabama, McKinstry was the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Mr. Football and Class 6A Back of the Year while playing for Pinson Valley in 2020, when the Indians won their third AHSAA Class 6A championship in four seasons.
