Antonio Gibson suffered a knee injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s game in Buffalo.

The Patriots running back was returning a kickoff and took a heavy hit from Bills cornerback Cam Lewis right on his legs. Gibson also lost the football as he absorbed the blow, but the fumble was recovered by TreVeyon Henderson.

Gibson limped off the field with help from the training staff and went into the blue medical tent. He was quickly ruled out with a knee injury after that.

Losing Gibson for the night puts Mike Vrabel into a bit of a bind, as Rhamondre Stevenson fumbled again in the first quarter, and Henderson had some issues in pass protection during his first month in the NFL. The Patriots had been sheltering the rookie accordingly. It was Stevenson’s third fumble of the season and the 10th in the veteran back’s last 20 games.

Prior to his injury, Gibson had been getting most of the offensive snaps after Stevenson put the ball on the ground.
