“Real Madrid star on loan to West Ham” | Report points the way ahead

With all the talk already pointing to January reinforcements, it is easy to forget that the window is only one month closed and West Ham’s squad rebuild under Potter looks more unsatisfactory than ever. Niclas Fullkrug is delivering very little whilst new coach Nuno appears to favour Callum Marshall over Callum Wilson, giving the academy graduate half an hour at the Emirates rather than call on the old carrier.

Graham Potter’s decision not to bring in a striker is just the latest wrong call in a succession of poor choices which the West Ham leadership have made in recent seasons, heading well back past Fullkrug’s recruitment. No long term replacement for Antonio. How many years have we as fans been harping on about the same thing. Chickens have well and truly come home to roost.

How will the club finance yet another foray into the market in January when a big financial loss is on the horizon, one wonders: A loan signing may have to suffice.

Which is why thehardtackle.com’s article caught my eye. Their report this morning:

West Ham United are interested in signing the Brazilian attacking prodigy Endrick from Real Madrid. The 19-year-old has struggled for regular game time at the Spanish club, and he needs to move on to play regularly. The London club is willing to provide him with an exit route. According to a report from Fichajes, they would be willing to sign the player on loan.”

Is interesting; yet knowing Spanish site ‘Fichajes’ (‘Transfers’) of old, it hasn’t proved to be the most accurate of sources. Quite how a nineteen year old arriving at London Stadium in January would help West Ham solve a goal drought isn’t clear. But the principle may well be the route which Nuno has to travel to provide a short term fix until the summer.

Hopefully, a more successful foray into the loan market could see West Ham bring in Nuno’s version of Evan Ferguson who might actually get game time: Ten – or even half a dozen- goals between January and the end of the season could be the difference between mid table sanctuary and a white knuckle relegation ride.
