‘Who knows what might happen‘ — Pep Guardiola teases Barcelona fans with honest Erling Haaland admission

It is no secret that FC Barcelona are always on the lookout for the best talents in world football. Yet, despite their ambition, the club’s financial limitations have significantly restricted their ability to pursue marquee signings in recent years.

Even so, the Catalan giants continue to be linked with elite names, and one area that seems destined for attention sooner rather than later is the centre-forward position.

With Robert Lewandowski entering the final stretch of his illustrious career and his contract expiring in June, Deco faces one of his toughest decisions: whether to seek a replacement on the market or rely on internal options such as Ferran Torres, who is flourishing as a central striker, or even Lamine Yamal, who could one day operate as a false nine.

Among the external targets long admired by Barcelona, one name continues to stand out: Erling Haaland. The Norwegian superstar has been a long-standing ambition for Joan Laporta, who even met with Haaland’s former agent Mino Raiola before the striker joined Manchester City.

However, Barcelona’s fragile financial situation at the time made such a move unfeasible, leading the club to turn instead to Robert Lewandowski, a more affordable and experienced option.

Still, Haaland’s name refuses to fade from Barça’s radar. Despite recently extending his contract with Manchester City until 2034, speculation surrounding a potential future move to Camp Nou continues to swirl.

Before Manchester City’s match against Brentford, as highlighted by SPORT, Pep Guardiola was once again questioned about Barcelona’s reported interest in his star striker, and his candid response left little doubt about Haaland’s immense appeal.

“Tell me one single club for which it wouldn’t be a dream to have Erling Haaland. I understand that it’s a dream for Barcelona to have him. If he weren’t with us, he’d also be a dream for City.”

When pressed about the Norwegian forward’s future, the City boss admitted that football can be unpredictable:

“What’s going to happen? Honestly, I don’t know. He has a long contract here. I think he’s doing very well; he’s scoring a lot of goals, he always wants to improve, always wants to create more chances to score even more goals. I think Erling isn’t stupid enough to sign something he doesn’t want to fulfill. That’s for sure — but in football, who knows what might happen in the future?”

While Barcelona’s pursuit of Haaland remains more of a dream than a concrete plan, their gradually improving financial situation could open up new possibilities in the years to come.

For now, the focus must remain on maximizing the potential of the players already within the squad, yet Guardiola’s remarks are sure to spark fresh excitement among fans dreaming of one day seeing the Norwegian goal machine in Blaugrana colors.
