The Pittsburgh Steelers’ game in Dublin, Ireland, at Croke Park against the Minnesota Vikings saw a positive economic impact during the week.
The crowd, which consisted of 35 percent Americans, 30 percent Irish citizens, and 35 percent of fans from the rest of the world, surged spending in the Dublin city centre.
According to RTE, the city centre saw a spending hike of 57 percent while health and beauty spas saw a surge to 72 percent of normal times during the week.
Year over year, there were total spikes across the entire city by as high as 12 percent, with restaurants seeing a strong rise in a 20 percent spending spike year over year.
The public transportation in the city saw a massive spike of 256 percent on the railway, buses, and tram services the city offers. Taxi drivers also saw a 7 percent increase in spending.
It is no surprise, as many fans made the trip to Dublin just for the game, and the NFL expected travel from around the world for the game, while a strong domestic support helped aide a successful first game in Ireland that saw 74,912 attend the game and even more in the city watching the game in bars and pubs.
