Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner hails fans in big claim about Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner spoke to the media following his side's 2-1 defeat to Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has hailed Hill Dickinson Stadium and says Everton supporters made it “very loud” late in the game as he hailed English football fans in general.

The Eagles looked set to extend their record-breaking unbeaten run to 20 matches after Daniel Munoz fired them ahead on 37 minutes, but David Moyes’ men turned proceedings on their head with Iliman Ndiaye’s 76th minute equaliser from the penalty spot before Jack Grealish pumped up the volume at the Blues’ new home on the Mersey waterfront by striking a stoppage time winner. Glasner said: “Every fan deserves huge credit for their support, especially in England. I love every single stadium, and of course I love Selhurst Park most.

“It’s always a great atmosphere wherever you go here in England. I remember once we played on a Monday at 8pm at Doncaster and the rain was coming down sideways and it was two degrees.

“You would not go out with your dog in this weather, but the stadium was full and the atmosphere was fantastic. I think this is what you in England can be really proud of, the support of your teams.

“I think they (Everton’s supporters) were quite silent for 60-70 minutes, but also we helped them a little bit to get back. Yes, it was very loud and it’s a really nice stadium... unfortunately we lost.”

Given the nature of how they lost the game after dominating for long periods, the Austrian admitted it felt like his side had only themselves to blame. Glasner said: “I’m massively disappointed. Everyone hurts.

“The way the game was played for 60-70 minutes was a fantastic performance from our team. But once again, we didn’t decide the game when we could have decided it, that’s happened a few times.

“We’ve played 12 games this season and this was the first defeat. I’d say this is maybe the missing link to really be a top team in the Premier League, to have this efficiency.

“I don’t think you have more clear chances than we had in the first 60 minutes when you play away at Everton, a very good team, very well-organised. As long as it’s one-nil, always everything is possible.

“Then we made one mistake in defence and we don’t make many mistakes in our defence but we made one and they got the penalty and the game was open. Then it’s who gets the lucky punch and takes it and today it was Everton so congrats to them.

“But it really hurts. We all feel it was our fault.”

The 51-year-old, who has steered the south London side to the FA Cup and Community Shield this year, added: “It feels to me that we let them in the game because we didn’t take our clear chances. In the first game it was a fantastic performance.

“Last year, we lost both games 2-1, but when I compare the performances, I think this was by far the best one. It’s Premier League football, every team can score, you just need one situation with set plays, and this happened.

“On the other side, it’s part of the development we’re in now, there is never a straight line up. I think we have made a few steps forward in the last couple of months.

“Today we have to take this disappointment and this pain. Then we will learn from it and try to improve.”

Palace had enjoyed their first European away win on Thursday when they triumphed 2-0 against Dynamo Kyiv in the UEFA Europa Conference League but Glasner refused to blame the defeat on fatigue. He said: “It would be a cheap excuse and easy to say. We will have to schedule until hopefully the end of the season and have a long journey in the cup competitions.

“Nobody had this feeling for 60 minutes when we could have been two or three nil up. I think the games goes completely different and there is no physical issue.

“When you get the equaliser at home, you get the momentum and the energy again. The players are feeling it in their minds: ‘We could have decided it already,’ and we tried to bring on a few fresh legs but today it didn’t work.”
