Shedeur Sanders is “an embarrassment” according to a former NFL head coach

Former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan had some strong words for Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders during an appearance on Get Up last week.

Ryan called Sanders “an embarrassment” as part of a lengthy rant about how he should stop talking about what a good player he is, start sitting in the front of the room during meetings and focus solely on playing football.

"Why is Shedeur not in there? Well, I don’t know, are you sitting in the back of the meeting rooms with scout team receivers? I think you are,“ Rex Ryan said. ”Get your butt in the front and you probably would be starting."

Ryan’s comments came after he was asked if Joe Flacco should be benched ahead of Cleveland’s game against the Vikings this past Sunday.

Flacco was ultimately benched in favor of rookie Dillon Gabriel.

However, Ryan believes Shedeur Sanders is talented enough to start if he would put 100 percent of his effort towards being the starting QB for the Browns.

"We’re all waiting to see should Shedeur Sanders be the guy or Gabriel, whatever. Something’s missing. Something’s missing with this kid,“ Ryan said. ”This kid talks, he runs his mouth like, ‘I could be a starting quarterback,’ with his arms crossed like this.

“Get your [expletive] in the front row and study and do all that. If I know, the whole league knows. Quit being an embarrassment that way. You’ve got the talent to be the quarterback. You should be. You should be embarrassed that you’re not the quarterback now.”

Dillon Gabriel played well in the first start of his NFL career on Sunday, completing 19 of 33 passes for 190 yards and 2 touchdowns in a close loss to the Vikings. He is expected to remain Cleveland’s starter moving forward.

As for Sanders, he is still waiting to get his first action in an NFL regular season game.
