Everton's Premier League position this time last year compared to now, one thing really stands…

A lot has changed at Everton over the last year from managers to a change in ownership.

The Friedkin Group completed their Everton takeover in December 2024, and one of their first major decisions was replacing Sean Dyche with David Moyes.

That’s proved to be an inspired decision as Moyes was able to steer the Toffees well clear of the relegation zone, finishing a whopping 23 points above 18th-placed Leicester City last term.

Moyes’ side have made a decent start this season, so with that said, let’s take a look at where Everton were this time last year heading into the October international break.

Everton’s Premier League position this time last year

After seven games last season, Everton had won just one game and were languishing just two points above the relegation zone in 16th place.

Sean Dyche’s side had won five points and had suffered a bruising 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and a 3-0 loss against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Compare that to the present day, and Everton are sitting pretty in eighth place on 11 points, but perhaps the most staggering difference is the goal difference.

Everton have a plus two goal difference under Moyes and quite remarkably, Dyche’s men were minus eight.

So the progression in just 12 months is evident, and the Friedkin’s will be hopeful Moyes can return the club to Europe this season, which was probably inconceivable during Dyche’s tenure.

Everton still have gears to find under David Moyes

Whilst it’s clear Moyes has done a terrific job, there are still elements of his side that need improvement, and that’s encouraging.

Everton still have gears to find, so there is plenty of room to get even better and really push up the league table.

Perhaps the main issue at the moment is up front, as Thierno Barry and Beto haven’t really found their rhythm this season.

Once Moyes’ side have a settled number nine in the goals, they could genuinely become a real threat to the top six.
