Alexis Sanchez, the former Manchester United player, found the back of the net for Sevilla in their thrashing of Barcelona on Sunday and despite previously stating he wouldn't celebrate against his old club. The Chilean later confessed that emotions can sometimes get the better of him.

Sanchez, who had a disappointing stint in Manchester, was one of four goal scorers as Barcelona suffered a significant loss, relinquishing their top spot in La Liga. Marcus Rashford, currently on loan from the Reds, also scored, but it was merely a consolation goal.

Since leaving Manchester, Sanchez has played for several teams and is now plying his trade in southern Spain. He celebrated after converting a penalty 13 minutes into the game.

Although the veteran had initially decided not to celebrate out of respect, he changed his mind in the heat of the moment. After the match, he explained: "I had said I wouldn't celebrate, but sometimes the excitement overcomes me, and the desire drives me to do so. In truth, I hold a great deal of love for Barcelona."

Sevilla were leading 2-0 when Rashford managed to claw back a goal for Barcelona. However, the hosts added two more goals during stoppage time, with Jose Angel Carmona and Akor Adams both contributing to the final scoreline, adding insult to injury for Barcelona.

Following the crushing defeat, Barcelona's manager Hansi Flick commented: "We have to accept this defeat and look at the positive side. In the first half we made a lot of mistakes, but in the second half we were able to react. The international break this October will do us good."

Sanchez famously opted for a move to Old Trafford, despite significant interest from Manchester City, when he decided to part ways with Arsenal in 2018. His transfer to the Reds saw him become the highest paid player in the Premier League, but his performance rarely justified such a hefty investment.

After only 18 months at the club, he was allowed to leave. Since then, he's had difficulty finding stability. He's had two stints in Italy with Inter Milan and a season at Marseille sandwiched in between.

More recently, he moved to Udinese, the club where he first made his mark before signing for Barcelona.

This summer, he returned to Spain to join the Seville-based team and has contributed to their promising start to the season. He's netted twice in his five appearances for the La Liga side.
