NFL QB saw dead body at team hotel prior to win: Report

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones led his team to a 26-23 overtime win against the rival Los Angeles Rams on “Thursday Night Football”, pushing the 49ers into first place in the NFC West.

Prior to the game, however, Jones’ day began with an unsettling situation. Jones told teammates he was standing on his hotel balcony in Marina del Ray when he saw a dead body floating in water at a nearby marina, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

Someone reported the body to police. Later, the 49ers’ players watched investigators and a coroner arrive at the marina while they were loading their team bus to head from the hotel to the Rams’ home SoFi Stadium.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the incident was under investigation as of Friday, per The Athletic.

Jones, filling in for injured starting quarterback Brock Purdy, threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns as the 49ers defeated the Rams on a game-winning field goal in overtime.

Jones, 27, is in his first season with the 49ers after playing last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and his first three seasons with the New England Patriots. A collegiate star at Alabama, Jones was drafted by the Patriots with the 15th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

In his four-plus NFL seasons, Jones has completed 66% of his passes for 11,495 yards, 60 touchdowns and 45 interceptions in 55 games.
