Most coaches have weird careers. Many will say they understand they are taking a job in which they will eventually be fired. That happens to even the best of coaches, as it did for Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks.
After a very good run of 14 years (yes, some were better than others), the team asked him to step aside as he didn't seemingly want to make some needed changes. Still, Carroll should always be beloved in Seattle for his energy, positivity, and the level of success he brought the team.
After not coaching for a year, while still under contract with the Seahawks, he [joined the Las Vegas Raiders](https://12thmanrising.com/raiders-hiring-former-seahawks-coach-pete-carroll-genius-move) as their head coach. He no longer had roster control as he did in Seattle, but could just focus on making the team better. So far, he hasn't.
Pete Carroll's failure with the Raiders was never seen with the Seattle Seahawks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In fact, after the Raiders were absolutely destroyed by the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, Carroll's new team is 1-4. While his Seattle teams went 7-9 in 2010 and 2011 and 7-10 in 2021, the head coach never had a season that began so poorly. The question now is whether Pete Carroll can fix things.
(For the record, at the time of this writing, the Colts and Raiders are still playing, but Indy was leading 40-3 in the third quarter.)
Las Vegas has brought in a number of former Seahawks since this past offseason. No player is more important than quarterback Geno Smith, who was happy to go from Seattle to Vegas because of Carroll, but Smith has done his former and current coach few favors.
One reason the Raiders are beginning as poorly as they are is that Smith is throwing far too many interceptions. 12s will understand that well, as the quarterback had 15 of them in 2024. He specifically made some terrible decisions in the red zone that cost Seattle at least one game last season.
Of course, Carroll likely also talked the Las Vegas Raiders into adding offensive tackle Stone Forsythe after he wasn't re-sign by Seattle this past offseason and then was released by the New York Giants. Forsythe isn't good enough to play in the NFL, but the coach was [content to have Forsythe](https://12thmanrising.com/pete-carroll-loyalty-tested-worst-way-for-las-vegas-raiders) to be left tackle Kolton Miller's backup.
Forsythe was expectedly abused by the Colts in Week 5, and he will continue to be by any team the Raiders play if Forsythe keeps getting snaps.
For those Seattle Seahawks fans who remain fans of Pete Carroll, and most should, the future doesn't look much brighter for the coach and his new team. After a winnable Week 6 against the Tennessee Titans, the Raiders next face the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Denver Broncos. Carroll might find his team to be 2-7 by Week 11.
