Wayne Rooney felt that one Manchester United star produced a steady performance against Sunderland outside of a potential nail-biting moment at Old Trafford.
The legendary former England and Manchester United striker sat down for his BBC-produced show and he made his feelings perfectly clear on Saturday’s contest.
Wayne Rooney suggested that United’s 2-0 Premier League win over Sunderland was the “most important thing” from the match at Old Trafford on the weekend.
United hosted Sunderland at home for their final clash before the October international break and the Red Devils took the lead through Mason Mount.
Following Mason Mount’s opener in the eighth minute, Ruben Amorim’s men built momentum in the first half and doubled their advantage through Benjamin Sesko.

However, Rooney admitted there was one tense moment involving Senne Lammens after the United shot-stopper avoided a potential red card in the second half.
“Yeah. No, listen, I think the ‘keeper done well,” he told BBC Sport’s The Wayne Rooney Show.
“He obviously had the misjudgement where he’s come out of the box and that could end up a different way.”
The United legend added: “But I thought in the main he simplified things, which, for a ‘keeper, is not a bad thing.
“He didn’t take too many touches on the ball, got the ball forward quick and it was effective.
“Sesko has been good at winning headers in the air and then [Bryan] Mbeumo running in behind him.”

What Wayne Rooney felt about Man Utd’s performance against Sunderland in the 2-0 Premier League win
Senne Lammens collided with Bruno Fernandes in the second half when he came rushing out of his box to close down Sunderland’s Bertrand Traore.
The United summer signing did not receive a booking after avoiding Bertrand Traore, with Lammens going on to keep a clean sheet on his Red Devils debut.
Speaking on United’s performance, Rooney continued: “So I actually thought Manchester United got the tactics right yesterday.
“I think Amorim slightly changed his tactics and went with two forwards up top and it worked certainly for the first 30 minutes.”
The former England and United captain added: “Sunderland had to change it early on in the first half and then from there they seen the game out well.
“Sunderland didn’t really cause that many problems. So, yeah, the result was the most important thing.”
United are back in Premier League action at Anfield after the international break, with Liverpool hosting the Red Devils for a 4:30pm UK kick-off time on 19th October.
