Spanish media seriously impressed with Newcastle United loanee after ‘strong performance’…

Newcastle United fans saw Odysseas Vlachodimos in action just once, but he is now making a big impact for Sevilla.

PSR was a major problem for Newcastle United in 2024, and that resulted in losing Elliot Anderson.

Boyhood Newcastle fan Anderson was sold to Nottingham Forest in a painful move.

Premier League clubs struck deals with each other to avoid PSR sanctions, and Newcastle brought in goalkeeper Vlachodimos from Forest.

The Greek stopper was essentially a non-factor for Newcastle last season, as he played just once in all competitions.

It was little surprise to see Vlachodimos move on over the summer as Newcastle brought in Aaron Ramsdale.

Vlachodimos joined Sevilla on loan for the season, and he has started to make a major impact.

The Newcastle loanee started in goal for Sevilla against Barcelona on Sunday and helped his side produce a stunning 4-1 win.

The Spanish media were impressed with Vlachodimos as Sevilla secured an unexpected victory.

Estadio Deportivo rated Vlachodimos at eight out of 10, praising him for his ability on the ball as well as his shot-stopping.

“The unexpected lack of danger in the first half allowed him to show his excellent long-passing talent. He helped find outlets with measured movements. His value is sure to continue to rise,” they said.

El Correo Web also went with an eight out of 10 rating, praising his confidence with the ball at his feet as well as his ability to bail Sevilla out of trouble.

“He saved a clear chance from Rashford in the first half. He was helpless for the goal. He was confident with his feet and went high in the Blaugrana attacks in the second half. He made some worthy saves in Sevilla’s worst moments,” he added.

La Colina De Nervion hailed Vlachodimos for a ‘strong performance’, proving exactly why he is Sevilla’s first-choice goalkeeper.

“The Greek continues to provide more than obvious reasons why Matías Almeyda is counting on him to start; another strong performance from the goalkeeper. He was unable to stop Rashford’s goal just before halftime. Even so, he made several valuable plays in the second half to keep Sevilla FC alive,” they wrote.

Odysseas Vlachodimos has no future at Newcastle United

Vlachodimos may well impress for Sevilla and show his quality in Spanish football, but it’s difficult to imagine him forcing his way back in at Newcastle.

Nick Pope has enjoyed a strong start to the season, and backup stopper Ramsdale will offer quality competition.

Newcastle hold an option to turn Ramsdale’s loan move permanent in the summer, and that could seriously appeal to Eddie Howe.

Vlachodimos still has more than three years left to run on his Newcastle contract, but a permanent exit at the end of the season surely makes sense for all parties after a forgettable first season at St James’ Park.
