Even Rex Ryan can’t believe what he’s seeing from the Jets.
After Sunday’s 37-22 loss to the struggling Dallas Cowboys, the Jets fell to 0-5 and remain the only winless team in the NFL.
“The Jets, I mean that’s an embarrassment,” the ex-Jets coach said Monday on “Get Up.”
“Who are we kidding? They got what, 8, 9 starters back off of that defense, supposed to be really good. And they absolutely stunk up the joint.”
The Jets are the first team in NFL history with zero takeaways through the first five games of the season.
“Absolutely atrocious,” Ryan said. “It’s not going to be fixed, we know it’s a long-term plan and all that. But you gotta show a hell of a lot more than this.
“They’re going to run the D-coordinator [Steve Wilks] out, I think that’s pretty much a given. But you also gotta run players out. The players gotta start picking this thing up. I wanna see more passion, I wanna see it on the sideline, I wanna see Aaron Glenn show more passion.”
Ryan added that Dak Prescott is playing at a high level for the Cowboys despite that team’s defensive struggles.
“But Dak Prescott, make no mistake, he is on fire and Brian Schottenheimer is doing an amazing job with that offense. Their defense still stinks but this offense is Super Bowl-caliber.”
The latest Jets’ loss came on another woeful day for New York-area sports teams. The Jets, Giants and Yankees were outscored by a combined 76-43.
Things didn’t go much better for Philadelphia fans. The Eagles blew a 17-3 lead to the Denver Broncos. The Phillies blew a 3-0 lead to the L.A. Dodgers in Game 1. And Penn State lost to previously winless UCLA, 42-37.
