Barcelona in contact with long-serving £300,000-a-week Manchester City star over 2026 move

Barcelona are in contact with Manchester City star Bernardo Silva over a deal in 2026, with the Portuguese midfielder thinking about his future.

According to Caught Offside, Bernardo Silva’s future could be a big topic next summer as his Manchester City contract comes to an end. There is no clarity on whether he will stay and continue at the Etihad, and Barcelona are already in touch with the Portuguese midfielder over a move in 2026.

Bernardo Silva was named Manchester City captain for the current season during the summer, with Pep Guardiola retaining his faith in one of the team’s most consistent players over the years. However, the Portuguese midfielder has been angling to leave the club for a few years now, and it might have been the Catalan manager who has convinced him to stay put.

With his contract paying out around £300,000-a-week in wages, there were hardly a handful of clubs that could have matched or improved these numbers. Juventus and Napoli are interested in a Bosman move next year, but there are significant doubts about their ability to pay the required wages to the midfielder.

Saudi Pro League sides have also shown interest in signing Bernardo Silva next year, with those in the Middle East more than capable of paying a big salary as well as a multi-million pound signing-on bonus to the player. Hence, it might be a case of turning down a lucrative deal from the Saudi Pro League, as many others have jumped ship over the last few years.

However, it could be the interest from Barcelona that could prove important from Silva’s perspective. Deco has already been in touch with the player over a move next year, although, once again, their ability to pay a big salary could come under the spotlight, as there could be a scenario that the £300,000-a-week Manchester City star might have to take a significant pay cut if he wishes the move to Catalonia.

Bernardo Silva to Barcelona?

This is not the first time Silva has been linked with a move to Barcelona, although the circumstances from a few years back and now are completely different when it comes to the Spanish giants. The Blaugrana still retain an interest, as Hansi Flick views the Portuguese midfielder’s technical side and experience will help Barcelona in a big way.

It remains to be seen what transpires with the midfielder’s immediate future, as Manchester City had been planning for a new contract too. A move to Barcelona would allow Bernardo Silva to change his scenario after a few years of wanting the change, but a move to Saudi Arabia could also prove difficult to turn down purely from a financial standpoint.
