Man United won in their last game before the international break against newly-promoted Sunderland.

Goals in the game came from Mason Mount and new striker signing Benjamin Sesko, who scored his second goal since joining from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.

It was Mount’s first goal of the season, as he was starting in favour of Matheus Cunha, who was on the bench. The midfielder impressed on Saturday and could earn himself more regular minutes under Amorim.

Mason Mount hailed in Troy Deeney’s Team of the week

Mount has struggled to find consistent form at Man United, mainly due to regular injury problems. Still, he will hope that his excellent performance against Sunderland will help him to go on a run of good form moving forward.

He was hailed by former Premier League striker Troy Deeney in his BBC Sport Team of the Week. Deeney praised Mount for the way he helped to control the game against Sunderland, saying that he was the best player on the pitch.

Deeney said: “This is a bit of a wildcard but he was excellent against Sunderland. Has struggled with injuries and left Chelsea for United under a bit of a cloud. He hasn't really hit the ground running because of the injuries but looked back to his best.

“Calm, composed, worked hard for the team and got his goal. When he came off after 65 minutes the game lost its rhythm - he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile.”

Could Mason Mount become a regular starter for Amorim?

The biggest issue that Ruben Amorim has with Mason Mount is that he has almost too many options of players that can play in the attacking midfield role. On Saturday Mount started, which left Cunha on the bench, something that the Brazilian attacker won’t have liked.

Based on how good Cunha can be and the fact that United spent big money on him in the summer, you can’t just leave out the former Wolves star every week. On the other side, Bryan Mbeumo is a similar story, he’s a player that you simply cannot leave on the bench every week.

If Mount is back to his best, then Amorim has one of those nice manager headaches with too much choice. It may be that an increased role for Mount just looks like him rotating with Cunha and Mbueumo in the attacking midfield positions.

The only other alternative is that Amorim could try and play Mount in a deeper midfield role, much like he has done with Bruno Fernandes. But if he were to do that, he would have to sacrifice having a more defensively solid player in the middle of the park in favour of Mount.
