Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is officially on the growing list of injured Lions defenders as we careen towards the quarter-point of the 2025 season. Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press shared on Monday afternoon that head coach Dan Campbell told reporters that Arnold may be out for an extended period of time, and the team isn't ruling out that he suffered a season-ending injury.
The Lions are down to Rock Ya-Sin, Amik Robertson, and newly called up cornerback Tre Flowers in that room. Kahlil Dorsey, who was out in Week 5 with a wrist injury and a concussion, could also be out a while per Justin Rogers of Detroit Football Network. That is, simply put, a horrible situation for Detroit's secondary ahead of two games against high octane passers in Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield.
And, it's a genuinely devastating blow to Arnold's year, as the second year defensive back finds himself on the wrong end of a huge potential year to develop as a leader in the Lions' defense.
Arnold out long-term for Lions after suffering shoulder injury in Week 5
Arnold had left the Lions' Week 5 bout with a shoulder injury, and was carted off the field during the game. That was pretty concerning, especially since he had already gone into the contest having been nursing a shoulder injury suffered earlier in the year. He's the second starting cornerback to go down in two weeks for Detroit, and another impactful defender now potentially landing on the IR.
While he hasn't wracked up any interceptions in his career, his defense has been solid to begin the 2025 campaign. Penalties have plagued him, but according to data shared by Pride of Detroit's Al Karsten, Arnold has only allowed three points scored when he's on the field for Detroit. When he's off, the team gives up an average of 24 points per play.

The trade market for the Lions is suddenly in their complete view. A notable name to watch for them to look to snag would be Riq Woolen, who the Seattle Seahawks are reportedly shopping as a result of the return of Devon Witherspoon.
Another name to potentially watch for would be Cleveland Browns' cornerback Greg Newsome II. Newsome has three passes defended and 23 total tackles on the year so far, and a PFF grade of 63.6 on the year. Not amazing, but still solid enough to consider a swing by the Lions who are known for getting the most out of hungry defenders like Newsome.
One thing's for sure: they have to do something to address this hole. They risk falling behind in a contentious NFC North if they don't entertain any offers.
