Ex-NFL Star Greg Olsen Reveals the 1 Thing That'd Make Him Cut Any Player

There are plenty of reasons an NFL player might get cut by a team, but the one former star tight end and current FOX Sports analyst Greg Olsen mentioned on Monday isn't one you usually hear, though he believes it should be.

In back-to-back weeks now, and several times over the years, we've seen position players on breakaway runs or receptions drop the ball just before crossing the goal line, assuming they've already scored when, in reality, they haven't.

That mistake often results in a fumble recovered by the defense or a touchback, giving possession to the opposing team.

After seeing Adonai Mitchell of the Indianapolis Colts make the blunder in Week 4, Arizona Cardinals running back Emari DeMarcado did the same thing in Week 5. While it wasn't the only reason the Cardinals lost 22-21, that lost touchdown certainly could've made a major difference.

On Monday, during his weekly appearance on “Wake Up Barstool,” Olsen said that if he were a head coach, any player who dropped the ball before crossing the goal line would be immediately cut from the roster.

"Like, if that happens in Madden, you're breaking your controller, you're throwing it against the wall," Olsen said. "I don't know why guys feel the need to drop the ball. If I was the head coach, I'd be like, ‘If you don't run with the ball to the sideline and keep it tucked, I'm just gonna cut you. You're just not going to play for me.'"

The Cardinals led 21-6 at one point but ended up blowing the 15-point lead and losing on a last-second field goal, giving the 0-4 Tennessee Titans their first win of the regular season.

"If you're Arizona this morning, there are a lot of disappointing losses in the league-I've been a part of plenty-you're sick," Olsen said. "You get over it, the could've, should've, would've. But that might be the worst. As far as a meaningless regular-season game goes, just the way they lost that fourth-quarter lead, you can't make it up."
