The Philadelphia Eagles may be getting complacent in their recent run of success. At least that's the new narrative circulating in Philly after their latest 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, following a 14-point lead entering the fourth quarter.
While speaking with the media after the game on Sunday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni stated that the team has not been doing the "little things" required of a championship football team.
"When we don't master the things that require no talent, that's something that's always going to be on me, because that's something that we talk about an awful lot," Sirianni saidvia The Athletic's Zach Berman. "We have to drive that home, and I have to drive that home."
Is it the small things that isn't working, or is it something deeper in Philly?
Sirianni has been with the Philadelphia Eagles since 2021, slowly becoming one of the franchise's most successful Head Coaches. Despite all his success, the head coach has been constantly under a microscope for a team that has seemed to underachieve, even with a Super Bowl victory in 2024.
With the Eagles coming into Week 5 at 4-0, it appears the team had overlooked a scrappy and talented 2-2 (now 3-2) Broncos team with one of the NFL's most tenacious front sevens. The Eagles looked "flat," especially in the second half, allowing 18 points in the final 13 minutes of the fourth quarter.
With Sirianni recently signing an extension, it is clear that the Eagles coach isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future. However, with the team struggling (and seemingly complacent), perhaps changes are on the horizon for the defending champions.
Many of the Eagles' criticisms circle offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo's inability to get the best out of his unit. With Patullo being a first-time offensive coordinator, the blame could shift to Sirianni for possibly not assisting Patullo with the intricacies, essentially giving Patullo too much leeway in his first year at the helm.

Regardless, with the Eagles' recent loss, hopefully the team can humble itself and play to the caliber it is capable of and is expected to play at. The Eagles have a short week with their matchup against the Giants this Thursday, as they hope to bounce back against a division rival.
