The Minnesota Vikings are back from two weeks abroad and Kevin O’Connell stood in front of the microphone at TCO Performance Center on Monday afternoon. Thankfully his press conference wasn’t filled with a bunch of negative updates for once this season.

Minnesota is on a bye this week and that will help the roster to get healthier. The offensive line was in shambles against the Cleveland Browns, and some of that talent will return. It also meant the end of roster spots for a couple of fringe pieces.

Two depth talents waived by Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings offensive line was in such rough shape heading into their matchup against the Cleveland Browns that they signed Matt Waletzko and had him fly overseas to practice. They’ll get healthier with the week off, and that is going to cost a couple of players their spot on the roster.

Minnesota grabbed ten-year veteran Nick Vannett as tight end depth early on this season. While T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver have been active, rookie Gavin Bartholomew suffered a season-ending injury and Ben Yurosek has been out as well.

Vannett played in three games for Minnesota but only four snaps came on offense. He logged 20 snaps on special teams.

After going undrafted, Vershon Lee signed as a free agent with the Vikings. He was elevated from the practice squad for the first time on Sunday against the Browns. He logged just four snaps as a guard on special teams.

It’s notable that Lee was sent packing as opposed to Waletzko, who just joined the team this week. Donovan Jackson is expected to be back for Week 7, and with Michael Jurgens returning to practice, Blake Brandel can assume guard duties once again.

Minnesota returns to action in Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles at home. There will be no Love boat reincarnation during the time off, and it’s probably good Jordan Addison is sticking around the facility too.
