“Likely”–Romano Hints That£34M West Ham Star Is Poised For 2026 Transfer Exit

West Ham defender Jean-Clair Todibo is “likely” to be the subject of enquiries from Italian clubs in the New Year, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

When asked whether there are doubts about the Frenchman’s future at the London Stadium, Romano said there are no active talks but there is a good chance that will change when the transfer window reopens in January:

“Not at this stage, but Italian clubs already called in the summer and are likely to return for Todibo in 2026.”

Todibo only signed for the Hammers on a permanent basis for £34m back in July, but he has his work cut out if he wants to revive his career at the London Stadium.

Where have things gone wrong for Todibo?

There have been question marks about the Frenchman’s attitude in recent months. It has been reported that previous manager Graham Potter fell out with the player after several incidents.

Todibo’s application has been questioned and he has also been late for training, leading to Potter dropping him for several games.

Why hasn’t Nuno reintegrated the West Ham star?

The Portuguese coach seemed to suggest in the build-up to the Arsenal fixture that Todibo was absent from the matchday squad for his first game in charge against Everton due to fitness reasons, and he should be available for the trip to the Emirates.

However, the centre-half was again absent from the teamsheet at the weekend, which raises further questions about his future.

If Todibo does return for the Brentford fixture after the international break, then transfer speculation will die down a bit, but from the outside looking in, Todibo’s future does seem to lie away from London. It remains to be seen, though, how much money the Irons could recoup from his sale.
