Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell thought cornerback Terrion Arnold played one of his “better games” in a 37-24 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. But it’s going to be “a while” before the former Alabama All-American will be able to top it.
“I just thought he was very competitive,” Campbell said during his Monday press conference about Arnold’s performance on Sunday. “I thought he was calm, I thought he was cool, and I thought this is one of the better games he’s played in a while. I thought he was really good. And, you know, we put a lot on him, and I thought he answered the bell.
“So, unfortunately, he’s going to be out for a while. He’s going to be out for a long time.”
Asked if that meant the rest of the 2025 season, Campbell said: “I don’t know that, but it’ll be a while. It’s going to be a while.”
Campbell did not provide details about the injury.
On social media, Arnold posted on Monday: “God doesn’t make mistakes. I’ll be back.”

Arnold left Sunday’s game late in the third quarter because of a shoulder injury. He also left Detroit’s 34-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 28 with a shoulder injury.
Between the games, Arnold was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice before returning to full participation for the rest of the week, according to the Lions’ injury report.
After Sunday’s victory, Arnold did not mention that he would miss playing time, but he did say he was playing at about “75 percent” because of the previous week’s injury.
“My whole thing is just going out there, getting the best treatment I can get during the week,” Arnold said, “and go out there and let the chips fall where they may.”

Arnold is the latest Detroit cornerback to get hurt. D.J. Reed started at cornerback for the first four games of the season with Arnold, but he went on injured reserve last week. Cornerback Khalil Dorsey is down with a wrist injury. And cornerback Ennis Rakestraw, drafted from Missouri in the second round in 2024 after the Lions picked Arnold from Alabama in the first round, went on injured reserve in the preseason.
Arnold has played in 21 regular-season games and one playoff game for Detroit and has started 21 overall.
At 4-1, the Lions’ next game is a prime-time meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs at 7:20 p.m. CDT Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. NBC will televise the game.
