Will Eagles’ Saquon Barkley be able to play against Giants?

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni was asked Monday about Saquon Barkley’s light workload Sunday, a logical question after the star running back carried the football just six times during the team’s 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos.

“You’re doing everything you can do in-game to win,” the Eagles coach said. “Now with that being said, of course we want to get Saquon the ball, but sometimes it’s getting him the ball through the pass game. Sometimes it’s through the running game, obviously more so through the running game with him because he’s a running back.”

Sirianni didn’t say anything about Barkley dealing with a knee injury. That bit of news came out when the Eagles released their estimated injury report ahead of Thursday night’s game with the Giants at Met Life Stadium. Barkley was one of three players listed as not practicing. The other two were guard Landon Dickerson and tight end Grant Calcaterra.

Barkley didn’t mention the injury Sunday after the game, but it took him an abnormally long time to get to his locker following the game, which meant he was likely getting treatment for his knee.

Dickerson added another body part to his list of injuries Sunday and now the Eagles must wait to see if he can fight through this issue the way he has the others this season.

Dickerson managed to start opening day just two weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery and he was back for Week 2 after leaving the opener with a back injury. The challenge for Dickerson and all the injured players this week is that the Eagles have just three days to recover.

The three-time Pro Bowl guard left late in the first quarter of the Eagles’ 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos with an injury to his left ankle and he did not return.

He had made some sensational blocks, including one on a 17-yard run by Barkley, on a drive that ended with a field goal before his ankle was rolled up underneath him by Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton, who had been blocked into Dickerson by left tackle Jordan Mailata.

“Always, always, always going to do what’s best for the player,” Sirianni said Monday afternoon when asked about Dickerson’s injury status. “I haven’t met with the medical staff yet ... so we’ll see where he is there. We just love how Landon always battles, but we are always going to do what’s best for the player because their health is more important than any game.”

Calcaterra left Sunday’s game with an oblique injury and did not return.

The Giants have their own long list of injuries. They lost star receiver Malik Nabers to a season-ending ACL injury in Week 4 against the Chargers and No. 2 receiver Darius Slayton went down Sunday against the Saints with a hamstring injury.

Slayton was listed as not practicing in the Giants’ estimated injury report Monday. Also listed as out was starting right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, who is dealing with a back injury.
