Patriots’ Milton Williams hunting NFL’s elite QBs: Josh Allen joins his sack list

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — There’s a list in Milton Williams’ head. It’s full of names of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

The Patriots defensive tackle won’t be satisfied until he checks off each box. The only way to do that is by sacking the top passers in the league.

On Sunday night in Buffalo, Williams crossed off Josh Allen. After multiple games of creating pressure that led to sacks for his teammates, he was thrilled to sack the reigning MVP in the Patriots wild win.

“It’s big. This is my first time really playing against him. I was definitely trying to get one on him,” Williams said. “Generational talent like that, I’m trying to get all of them. I got (Patrick) Mahomes before. I got Josh now.”

In five games, Williams has 2.5 sacks, but his impact has been greater than that number indicates. That was seen two weeks ago in the Patriots win over Carolina.

At 10:52 of the second quarter, Williams blew up the Panthers offensive line and was a moment away from sacking Bryce Young. Instead of getting the sack, it went to teammate K’Lavon Chaisson, who was on the receiving end of Williams’ dominance.

The defensive tackle recognizes it’s not all about numbers, but was miffed he was shut out of the stat sheet for the second week in a row.

“Oh my god. Bro, that’s two weeks in a row before this game, I get a sack and it doesn’t count,” Williams said. “I’m going to keep rushing, but damn. It’s tough.”

Over this season, Chaisson and Harold Landry have recognized how they’ve benefited from Williams’ play. The edge rushers say they’ve kept a tab on how many dinners they owe their teammate.

“We definitely do,” Chaisson told MassLive last week. “We speak about it in film (meetings), too. We’ve got quite a tab built up. For sure.”

On Sunday night, Williams was at it again. The defensive tackle beat a double team to get to Allen for a sack on third down.

Another name checked off his list. Now, he’s on to the next.

“I ain’t got (Jalen) Hurts because I was on his team. I was close to Lamar (Jackson) a couple times last year. He’s still on my list,” Williams said. “I’ve got to try to get one on him. This guy (Allen) is a hell of an athlete. I’m trying to affect the game and get to him and help my team win.”

The Patriots are scheduled to play Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16.
