After another Jets loss, Jerry Jones flips the bird, drawing eyes — and maybe league scrutiny

It can’t get any worse than starting the season 0-5 for the Jets, right?

To add insult to injury, after the Jets’ 37-22 loss on Sunday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was captured on video giving fans the middle finger at MetLife Stadium.

“Quit playing with Mr. Jerry Jones,” wrote former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant over the video, via X/Twitter, “Go Cowboys.”

The NFL has not commented on Jones’s actions, but there is a history of them frowning upon this type of behavior.

In 2009, the NFL fined former Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams was caught on camera raising his middle finger from his suite — and again on the field — while celebrating a victory. Adams was fined $250,000 for making an “obscene gesture” toward Buffalo Bills fans.

During the 2023 season, Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 after being seen on video throwing a drink toward Jacksonville Jaguars fans during a 26-0 loss.

Sunday’s blowout was more than a loss for the Jets. It was worse than first-year coach Aaron Glenn, who became the first in franchise history to lose his first five games.

It was a three-hour waking nightmare. A performance so bad, and so devoid of hope on every level, that one has no choice but to question the brighter future that Glenn has so adamantly projected through the Jets’ struggles in his first month on the job.

Losing is understandable, especially for a new coach on a team with a history of losing. But losing like this is not.

After the game, New York sports talk radio legend Mike Francesa went as far as comparing the 2025 Jets to the 1995 and 1996 teams, which finished their seasons 3-13 and 1-15, respectively. Those teams are regarded as the worst in franchise history.

“You can’t throw a coach out in his first year, but you know what? The way things are going, Glenn’s going to make it tempting,” Francesa said, via X/Twitter. “We’re starting to reference (Rich) Kotite. Does Aaron Glenn realize what we are bumping into, what we are approaching when you start to bring up Kotite and the Kotite Jets?

“That’s how bad this has become. They’re actually not worth any more words. They just stink to high heavens.”
