**Everton**continue their excellent start to life at a new home with a last gasp winner against Crystal Palace. However, David Moyes, a seasoned veteran in the art of overperforming expectations at Premier League level, admits that “not everything can be great right away” in such circumstances.
‘The support recognised a much-improved team’
A flashpoint involving Moyes and James Garner galvanised the crowd at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the second half after 45 minutes where there had not been very much to shout about.
“We need we need the crowd behind us greatly. Even any football club will tell you need it behind you when you're not doing so well. We didn't play well in the first half, Crystal Palace played really well and I didn't expect them to play as well. I thought after Thursday night they might have a bit of a hangover at the start of the games. I thought they played really well and we didn't play well.”
The Toffees have made a strong start to life at their new home away from Goodison Park. They beat **Brighton**2-1 in August, drew 0-0 with Aston Villa and 1-1 with West Ham in September, and have now ended the 19 match unbeaten run of the Eagles in October. But Moyes is not getting ahead of himself in thinking that everything about the experience at the new stadium is sunshine and rainbows.
“We know that not everything can be great right away when you go into new stadium. I've seen it in many stadiums. There's lots of things which things which need to get better. Whether it's outside or inside, us getting used to it, the pitch, all the parts. We'll not fix it in a few months. It will take a couple of years for everything to get settled down, for everybody be completely used to it.”
As things work themselves out, he hopes to lean on the passion from the fans to back up the side. Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr might have doubled the lead for the visitors, who put their opponents under serious pressure. It was at this moment Moyes was most grateful for the support.
“But we needed them to roar us on, and I thought the players went about it in the second half in the right manner. The support picked up and recognized a much-improved sort of team in the second half and the first half and we got something out the game in the end. It looked as if when it was 1-0, it looks as if they could have made it 2-0, but thankfully we stuck at it and we kept them out.”
