Report: Chelsea are confident of fending off Real Madrid's interest in Enzo Fernandez, it's all thanks to Todd Boehly

Chelsea fans may not need to panic about Real Madrid’s interest in Enzo Fernandez.

The Chelsea midfielder continues to be linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu and is a fan of Spanish football.

In May, Fernandez shared his love for La Liga, stating that he really likes the football division.

Chelsea supporters may now be worried about Fernandez’s future, with the 24-year-old being one of the team’s best players. However, the club are remaining calm and believe that they have good reason to.

Chelsea feel Enzo Fernandez’s long-term contract protects them

Todd Boehly and Chelsea faced a lot of criticism for handing Fernandez and others extremely long contracts.

When the Blues signed the Argentine from Benfica in 2023, he was given an eight-and-a-half-year deal.

The decision to hand him a deal that long now looks like a masterstroke amid Real Madrid’s interest. According to Flashscore, Chelsea are fully aware of Real Madrid’s interest in Fernandez but believe they are protected because of the length of the player’s contract.

Fernandez has received criticism himself for some of his performances in the Premier League, but he has started to win over a lot of his doubters.

For example, after not being too sure about him in the past, Jamie Redknapp was impressed with Fernandez’s performance in Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Liverpool last weekend.

Four midfielders who could replace Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea

While Fernandez looks likely to stay at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea seem to have contingency plans in place in the event that the Argentina international does depart west London.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea have a four-man shortlist of potential replacements for Fernandez.

That shortlist is thought to include Kobbie Mainoo, Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Yegor Yarmolyuk.

They are all midfielders with a lot of potential, but they do different things compared to Fernandez and are not on his level yet. Most Chelsea supporters would be disappointed if one of that quartet ended up replacing their World Cup winner.
