Minnesota Vikings cut ties with former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end

Former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Nick Vannett is being released by the Minnesota Vikings. Vannett signed with the team in August in the middle of training camp.

A third-round pick out of Ohio State in the 2016 NFL Draft, Vannett spent his first three years with the Seattle Seahawks before being traded to the Steelers in 2019, spending just one season on the team.

Since that time, Vannett has spent most of his decade-long career hopping around teams. He has played for the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, and now, the Vikings.

He has 108 receptions for 1012 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns over those years. Vannett, 32, is mostly known for his blocking prowess, which is why teams continue to sign the veteran tight end as quality depth for their roster.

Vannett started in ten games in 2024 with the Titans, while playing all 17 games on the team. He had a small role on the Vikings’ offense but was never able to parlay that into a meaningful role with the team. Vannett played in three games with the team.
