Exclusive: Marcus Rashford wants permanent Barcelona move - so here's the truth about Man United's stance

Manchester United have little intention of handing Marcus Rashford a surprise lifeline despite his impressive form for Barcelona, TBR Football understands.

Marcus Rashford already has nine goal contributions this season, including a goal or assist in his last eight matches for club and country.

The forward looks a world away from his days stuck in the ‘bomb squad’ at Old Trafford, and Barcelona could look to trigger the £26million clause to turn his loan move permanent.

He scored his first LaLiga goal in the 4-1 defeat against Sevilla last weekend and has rediscovered his best form in Spain.

Some figures at Manchester United might be tempted to feel regret at the decision to allow their former golden boy to leave, but there remains no way back for Rashford.

Exclusive: Marcus Rashford still has no future at Man United

Sources have told TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey that Rashford also has no intention of returning to his parent club at the end of the season.

“Marcus Rashford is thoroughly enjoying his time at Barcelona, he made it clear more than 12 months before that he wanted to move to the Nou Camp,” said Bailey.

“Now in Catalunya, there is no way he wants to return to Old Trafford.

“United still have him under contract to 2028, but Barca have the option on him and they intend to use it, although they want to talk terms.

“United, in theory, know they could keep him but as it stands the club have little intention of doing so.”

Rashford has made 10 appearances under Hansi Flick this season, scoring three goals and chalking up five assists, and he is continuing to go from strength to strength at Barcelona.

Man United pleased with Rasmus Hojlund’s performances

Rasmus Hojlund was another United forward shipped out during the summer, and he has enjoyed an impressive start to life at Serie A champions Napoli.

TBR Football can reveal that the Old Trafford hierarchy are pleased he is performing, even if he has no future at the club.

“Hojlund was a case that he had to go; they had signed Benjamin Sesko for huge money – he knew his time was up and the Ruben Amorim system wasn’t working for him,” Bailey said.

“Hojlund had such a huge expectation on his shoulders and that is a tough thing to deal with, and it just didn’t work out.

“But United always believed there was a player there, and they always appreciated his professionalism and the hard work.

“Again, it was no surprise to them that a club like Napoli came in for him, and they are happy to see him performing – obviously, there is no way back as the deal for him is an obligation.”
