'Fantastic person': Barcelona wonderkid praises Newcastle United's Anthony Elanga after first…

Newcastle United winger Anthony Elanga is looking for international duty to provide a spark for his Premier League campaign.

Newcastle United snapped up Anthony Elanga in a £55million raid on Nottingham Forest after seeing several bids fall short.

The Magpies finally landed Elanga and are looking for him to replicate his electric Forest displays at St James’ Park.

Elanga has yet to reach those heights and is still settling in at Newcastle amid mixed performances for the Magpies.

Barcelona talent praises Newcastle United’s Anthony Elanga

Elanga caught the eye against Union Saint-Gilloise last week but couldn’t back that up with another strong display against Nottingham Forest.

Now on international duty with Sweden, Elanga has backed himself to ‘click’ at Newcastle with time.

Elanga’s primary focus will be on Sweden’s games against Switzerland and Kosovo, and teammate Roony Bardghji has offered major praise.

The Barcelona wonderkid has told Aftonbladet that he thinks Elanga is a ‘fantastic person’.

Bardghji admitted that he and Elanga ‘clicked right away’, and he views the Newcastle ace as a ‘big brother’ figure.

“He’s a fantastic person,” said Bardghji. “We clicked right away and it’s fun to build that relationship more and more. He’s like a big brother,” he added.

What is incredible here is that Bardghji and Elanga have only spent one training session together – and that was on Tuesday morning.

The pair are looking to shine for Sweden and appear to have struck up an instant connection.

“I’ll take care of him when he’s here,” said Elanga.

“I think he can help the team a lot, because he has good qualities. Just look at what he has done at Barcelona. He is a very kind person and a fantastic player,” he added.

Another layer to this story is that Elanga and Bardghji could have easily become Newcastle teammates.

Newcastle were interested in signing Bardghji from FC Copenhagen earlier in 2025, but he ended up joining Barcelona instead.

The Magpies may keep tabs on Bardghji’s development in the hope of a future move, but will just hope to see Elanga impress in the coming days.
