After a rough showing late in Week 5 against the Jaguars, Chiefs DT Chris Jones has gone dark on X.

Rarely does a team move the ball as well as the Kansas City Chiefs did in Week 5 but somehow still lose. Andy Reid’s team found a way to blow Monday night’s early 14-0 lead against the Jacksonville Jaguars, though, doing so in tragic fashion.

It was Steve Spagnuolo’s defense that didn’t hold up its end of the bargain late. Defensive tackle Chris Jones, in particular, found himself under heavy criticism for what many interpreted as a lack of effort on a Trevor Lawrence touchdown.

Apparently, Jones either saw the remarks on social media or did some preventative maintenance.

Chiefs Star DT Chris Jones Goes Dark on X Following Rough Week 5 Showing

As pointed out by Mark Gunnels in a tweet, Jones seems to have deactivated his X account for the time being.

As of the publishing of this article, Jones’ account is indeed inaccessible and doesn’t display any posts. Upon reaching his page (@StoneColdJones), one is met with a “this account doesn’t exist” dialogue on the screen.

It’s been a long season for Jones already. Prior to Week 4’s win over the Baltimore Ravens, the All-Pro tackle departed for the funeral of his late aunt. Jones ultimately made it back in time for kickoff that Sunday afternoon, delivering a quality performance and thanking the team for supporting him afterwards.

On a first-and-goal play on Monday, Lawrence stumbled at the snap and fell but got back up in time to score the game-winning touchdown with his legs. Jones, looking like a contain man for the middle of the field, didn’t migrate over in time to prevent a score, thus prompting the flack for being stuck in no-man’s land.

Jones Explains Kansas City’s Lack of Ability to Take Down Trevor Lawrence

After the game, Jones explained what went wrong and said the defense simply must finish plays moving forward.

“I thought multiple times, we had him,” Jones said. “We’ve just got to finish. We’ve got to finish. We had multiple guys there — we’ve just got finish that play. It was a fluke play for him to break that many tackles. I put it on us as a defense. We’ve got to finish. We’ve got to bring him down on that.”

Rush-lane integrity remains a point of emphasis. It was a glaring problem in Week 1’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, which saw linebacker Drue Tranquill bark at Jones on the field. As October rolls on, it’s still something to work on.

“I think us as a defensive line, other than finishing plays, we’ve got to be a little more disciplined on our rush lanes,” Jones said. “We let Trevor Lawrence get out multiple times today, especially in the red zone. I think the second touchdown, he ran it in himself. The last touchdown of the game, he ran it in himself. That’s on the D-line. That’s on the D-line.”

According to SumerSports, the Chiefs’ defense ranks 14th in EPA/play through five weeks. Jones has a sack and 6 quarterback hits while playing 82% of available defensive snaps. That’s the second-highest share of his career, trailing only last year’s 83% mark. The results are mixed, as he’s 10th in total pressures among all interior linemen per Pro Football Focus. His run defense grade of 44.8, though, is 157th out of 186 players.

Jones and the Kansas City defense will shoot for more consistency in Week 6 and beyond.
