Former Georgia Southern running back Jalen White, left, was invited to work out for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks may be in relatively decent shape at running back. Still, fortunes can change in a hurry in the NFL, so it’s best that teams remain opportunistic in search of upgrades.

Seeking help along the margins of their roster, the Seahawks are bringing in former Georgia Southern star Jalen White for a workout on Tuesday, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

After running for 3,016 yards over five seasons at Georgia Southern, White went undrafted this spring. He signed with the Packers but was waived on Aug. 12 with an injury designation and reverted to injured reserve the following day. Later that month, White reached a settlement with the team granting his release.

White Injured Foot in Training Camp

White sustained a foot injury in a 30-10 preseason loss to the Jets on Aug. 9. The Packers then waived him with an injury designation, clearing a spot on the active for running back Tyrion Davis-Price, who has since signed with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL.

While White remains a free agent, the 23-year-old appears to be healthy again and is eager to return to the field after having his progress stunted by injury.

White was highly productive during his time with Georgia Southern, twice earning recognition for Third Team All-Sun Belt (2022-23). He averaged 5.3 yards on 573 career carries and rounded out his time as an Eagle with 38 touchdowns (36 rushing).

As a senior, White ran for 744 yards and 13 touchdowns on 163 carries and caught 20 passes for 69 yards.

A pre-draft scouting report by NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein called the 5-foot-11, 207-pound White an “angular runner with good size and adequate play speed.”

“White plays with good eye quickness and displays a consistent ability to read and react to traffic throughout the run,” Zierlein wrote. “He’s not a physical runner by nature, but he plays with a decisive burst and can generate enough momentum to fall forward through contact. White has modest third-down potential but will need to improve his take-ons in blitz pickups. His production isn’t eye-popping, but there are tools and traits that could entice NFL evaluators looking for roster depth.”

Seahawks’ Running Game Displaying Growth

Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet have done the lion’s share of work in the Seahawks’ backfield, with George Holani providing depth. Kenny McIntosh, a third-year pro who ran for 172 yards on 31 carries last season, is on season-ending injured reserve after tearing his ACL during training camp in July.

The Seahawks (3-2) rank 19th in the NFL with 113 rushing yards per game, but after Sunday’s 38-35 loss to the Buccaneers, they are fifth in scoring (29.2 points per game) and ninth in total offense (358.4 yards per game).

They will look to improve on that Sunday (1 p.m. ET) when they visit the Jaguars.
