Pop star Taylor Swift has bene mentioned for many years a s a possible Super Bowl halftime performer. With Bad Bunny being announced as the Super Bowl LX performer, questions once again arose about why Swift was not doing the show.
Swift responded Monday night on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” said the idea had been floated by her multiple times, but her decision to decline doing the show had more to do with her fiancée, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, than anything else. Kelce and Swift announced their engagement on social media on Aug. 26 and it became one of the most viral posts in both 2025 and social media history.
“Jay-Z has always been very good to me,” Swift said. “Our teams are really close. They sometimes will call and say, ‘How does she feel about the Super Bowl? How does she feel about it in general? We’re always able to tell him the truth, which is that I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field.”
“That is violent chess,” Swift continued. “That is gladiators without swords. That is dangerous. For the whole season, I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field. Can you imagine if he’s out there every single week, putting his life on the line, doing this very dangerous, very high pressure, high intensity sport and I’m like, ‘I wonder what my choreo should be.”
Swift’s answer lines up with the league’s desire to have her at the Super Bowl. Last month on NBC’s “Today”, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was asked if Swift would be playing at this year’s halftime show at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
“We would always love to have Taylor play,” Goodell said during the interview. “She is a special, special talent and obviously, she would be welcome at any time.”
