Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones will have to cough up some significant money after going viral for giving the middle finger to a New York Jets fan during Week 5 of the NFL season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday afternoon that Jones has been slapped with a six-figure fine.
Jones can appeal the fine, but for now, he has been docked $250,000.

Earlier in the day, Jones made his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan and attempted to justify his gesture, claiming it was an “inadvertent” incident.

Jones claimed that he was attempting to give a fan the thumbs-up following the Cowboys’ final touchdown of the game.
“That was unfortunate. There was a swarm of Cowboys fans out front. It was right after we made our last touchdown. I put up the wrong show of hand,” Jones said. “The intention was thumbs up.”

Intentional or not, Jones will now be facing the hefty fine, which has some precedent.
In 2009, Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams was also fined $250,000 for flashing a similar gesture to a Buffalo Bills fan.
