The Cleveland Browns made a big decision on Tuesday, trading veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals. All season long, they have been one of the most talked about teams in the NFL due to their quarterback situation.
Ahead of Week 5 against the Minnesota Vikings, the Browns opted to make a change. They benched Flacco in favor of rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel. Shedeur Sanders remained the No. 3 quarterback on the roster.
Gabriel put together a solid showing in his NFL starting debut. That obviously led to the team feeling comfortable about trading Flacco. Sanders has also been coming along in his development process.
Following the move, Sanders has now moved his way up the depth chart to being the No. 2 quarterback behind Gabriel. It seems likely that he will see the field at some point this season.
Deion Sanders was asked his thoughts about Cleveland trading Flacco. He issued a strong response to the question, making it clear that he doesn’t care about the Browns and only cares about his son and winning with the Colorado Buffaloes.
"I don't give a darn about the Browns, I care about the Colorado Buffaloes,” Sanders said. “I do love me some Shedeur Sanders though, believe that.”
Truthfully, no one can blame him for his response. Sanders should care more about Colorado winning and his son than he does about what Cleveland decides to do as a franchise. This move helps his son move closer to playing, which is likely something that makes him happy, but there is no real reason for him to comment on Flacco at all.
Moving forward this season, the Browns are going to be interesting to watch. Fans and the media have been calling for Sanders to get on the field. Now, Sanders is just one snap away from potentially getting his first NFL playing time.
In his starting debut against the Vikings, Gabriel completed 19 of his 33 pass attempts for 190 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He’s clearly capable of starting for the time being.
As for Flacco, he finishes his second stint in Cleveland completing 58.1 percent of his passes for 815 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions over the course of four games.
