Tottenham Hotspur look set to miss out on Real Madrid star Rodrygo
Tottenham are enjoying a brilliant start to the new campaign under Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites have lost just once in their opening ten matches this season, climbing up to third place in the Premier League table. They also remain within touching distance of league leaders Arsenal, as the North London club looks to build on last season’s Europa League success.
There are a lot of positives to take from Spurs’ performances this season. Thomas Frank has certainly improved the squad in more ways than one, with every player understanding their respective role within the team. However, there remains one glaring issue that the Danish tactician has yet to address in the early stages of the new season.
Tottenham Hotspur look set to miss out on Real Madrid star Rodrygo.
Rodrygo is all set to snub Tottenham and fight for his place at Real Madrid.
Frank is still looking to find a long-term solution for the left-wing position at N17 after failing to sign a new winger in the summer. As of now, the Lilywhites have Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert operating from the wide areas to give Spurs a different dynamic in the attack. But it is clear to see that both players are not the ideal solution for the left-wing problems if the North London club wants to cross the final hurdle and win major trophies consistently.
Tottenham suffer setback in their hopes of landing Real Madrid star Rodrygo
Earlier reports suggested that Tottenham were once again considering a move for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo in the January transfer window. The Lilywhites had previously held talks with the Brazilian’s representatives in the summer but were unable to convince him to make the switch to N17. The report also indicated that Rodrygo’s lack of game time under Xabi Alonso this season could open the door for a potential winter exit, giving Spurs an opportunity to capitalise on the situation and make him the face of their project.
However, the 24-year-old has now cleared the air surrounding his uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu. In an exclusive interview with Diario AS, Rodrygo said,
“As long as Real Madrid want me, I stay at the club. I love being at the club.”
The prolific winger has made it clear that he has no intentions of leaving the La Liga giants anytime soon. Instead, Rodrygo wants to fight for his place in the starting eleven under Xabi Alonso, and prove his worth by showcasing his talent consistently this season.
In an ideal world, Rodrygo would have been the ideal player to have on the left-wing at Tottenham. He would have been an ideal replacement of Heung-Min Son, giving the Lilywhites some much-needed depth going forward. The 24-year-old’s dribbling skills, coupled with his ability to get into goal-scoring positions and get a shot off, would have provided a different dynamic to the attack.
Spurs, however, should now look to switch their focus on other alternatives instead. There is still some time before the January transfer window commences, so the Lilywhites need to identify the right profile of players and go all-in for them to give Thomas Frank the best chance of succeeding at N17.
