Taylor Swift explains why she doesn’t want to do the Super Bowl

If you’re hoping for a Taylor Swift Super Bowl performance one day, you may just be waiting forever.

The “Life of a Showgirl” singer appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Monday night, where she addressed rumors about declining the opportunity because the NFL wouldn’t allow her to own the performance footage.

At first, Taylor just smiled at the question and said, “No.”

She later explained that she has had informal conversations with Jay-Z's Roc Nation - who plan and produce the Halftime Show - though she's never had a formal offer to headline.

"Here's the thing, Jay-Z has always been very good to me. Our teams are very close. They sometimes will call and ask how I feel about it — and that's not an official offer or a conference-room conversation. We're always able to tell him the truth, which is that I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field,” referring to fiancé Travis Kelce.

"That is violent chess. That is gladiators without swords. That is dangerous,” she continued. “The whole season I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field. Can you imagine if he's out there every single week putting his life on the line, doing this very dangerous, very high-pressure, high-intensity sport, and I'm like, 'I wonder what my choreo should be. I think we should do two verses of 'Shake It Off' into 'Blank Space' into 'Cruel Summer' would be great.'"

“This has nothing to do with Travis — he would love for me to do it. But I’m just too locked in,” she added.

The 2026 Superbowl Halftime Show will be headlined by Bad Bunny on February 8.

Previous Halftime Show headliners include Kendrick Lamar, Usher, Rihanna, The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Madonna, Prince, and Michael Jackson.

Earlier this year, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell insisted he would "welcome" Taylor performing at the Super Bowl.

"We would always love to have Taylor play. She is a special, special talent. And obviously she would be welcome at any time,” he told “Today.”
