After news broke that the Browns had traded veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to division rival Cincinnati, reporters wanted to know what Deion Sanders thought about his son’s situation in Cleveland.
Sanders didn’t hesitate when asked about the Flacco trade and its implications for his son’s potential playing time in Cleveland: “I was just wondering what your reaction is.”
His answer was direct: “I don’t give a damn about the Browns at all. I care about the Colorado Buffaloes. I do love me some Shedeur Sanders, though, believe that? I care about him and the rest of them as well. I’m a coach trying to win, just like they’re trying to win games.”
The Browns had just shipped their 40-year-old backup quarterback to Cincinnati for a swap of late-round picks, a move that reshuffled Cleveland’s quarterback depth chart behind starter Dillon Gabriel.

The Browns selected Shedeur Sanders with the 144th overall pick in this past April’s draft, a fall for a quarterback many projected as a first-round talent. Sanders now sits third on Cleveland’s depth chart, waiting for his opportunity.
Browns Fans Question Sanders’ Loyalty While Others Defend His Focus
The reaction from Cleveland’s fanbase pointed out the obvious connection between the question and Shedeur’s position on the depth chart, @inquisitivejew wrote to Sanders: “Respect the hell out of you, Prime. But isn’t this tied directly to Shedeur. They didn’t ask you about the OT trade the Browns just made; they asked about the Flacco trade because Sanders now moves up on the depth chart.”
Another observer suggesting Sanders’ tune might change once his son gets playing time: “When is son finally starts he’ll be the biggest browns fan.”
@laneezy acknowledged Sanders’ right to focus on Colorado: “I respect coach Prime, but he could’ve said this in a different way to avoid any PR issues. No matter how godly we can be, we can make mistakes. No matter how you are mad with how Shedeur’$ not playing yet, at least the Browns drafted him when no one else wanted to.”
@jackknine argued: “People can be mad all u want about what prime said, he’s absolutely correct you don’t worry about what u can’t control. He coaching his young college students and that’s all his focus should be unless it’s an emergency regarding any of his family.”
Finally, a fan questioned the basic logic of Sanders’ statement: “So you don’t care about the team your son plays for? That’s pretty weird man!”
If Shedeur eventually earns significant playing time with the Browns, Sanders will face increased scrutiny about whether his professed indifference can withstand the reality of watching his son compete at football’s highest level. For now, though, Sanders has made his position clear: Colorado comes first, second, and third in his professional priorities.
