The Packers have at times looked like one of the most dominant teams in the NFL, but have seen some major issues creep to the surface over the past two weeks.
Between struggles getting the ground game going consistently, protecting quarterback Jordan Love, and a defense that has struggled to match its torrid turnover pace from a year ago, Green Bay hopes to play a more complementary brand of football and find some consistent dominance as the roster gets healthier in the weeks ahead.
Packers look to buck Matt LaFleur bye week struggles
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is shown during the fourth quarter of their preseason game Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Green Bay Packers beat the Seattle Seahawks 20-7.
While the Cincinnati Bengals, losers of three consecutive games represent an ideal opportunity for the Packers to “get right,” Sunday afternoon at Lambeau, the timing might be suboptimal.
Under Matt LaFleur, the Packers are just 4-5 coming out of the bye week, but the struggles with extra rest run much deeper.
Jon Meerdink of SBNation points out that the Packers haven’t just been below .500 off a bye week LaFleur, but have been dramatically outscored in those games.
“They have a point differential of -15. Outside of the playoffs,” Meerdink writes of the Packers’ bye week struggles. “LaFleur’s Packers are 3-3 with a -31 point differential. Twice his teams have lost a post-bye game by at least 28 points.”
The Bengals do not appear, at least on paper, having been outscored 113-37 over the past three games, to be able to capitalize on the Packers’ post-bye struggles. But, after acquiring Joe Flacco in a trade with the Browns, there would be some irony to Flacco not just beating the Packers twice in four weeks but extending LaFleur’s struggles with extra time to prepare.
