Bucs QB Baker Mayfield scans the field for an open receiver Sunday in Seattle.
This looked pretty close to a Liam Coen attack.
The former Bucs offensive coordinator now in Jacksonville rarely had Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield throw past 20 yards from the line of scrimmage.
Since, Joe refers to 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage the “Coen Line.” And last Sunday in Seattle, Mayfield rarely went past it.
But when Mayfield did go past the Coen Line, he succeeded. Big time!
Mayfield has one of his best games of his football career in Seattle, throwing the ball. Mayfield put the ball in the air 33 times and only had 4 incompletions. That’s insane.
Maybe that was because Mayfield only crossed the Coen Line four times? Mayfield completed three of those passes, one of which was a touchdown pass to Emeka Egbuka down the right seam.
That pass was the first touchdown Seattle has allowed this season from outside the red zone.
Mayfield spread his passes all over the field to seven different receivers. That’s pretty good.
So, yeah, Joe would say last week was one of Mayfield’s best days. Considering it took place against a very stingy defense, that adds more weight to Mayfield’s day being perhaps his best as a Bucs signal-caller.
