Brian Alderson in the Sky Blue
City went on to beat Bristol City in Round Three (after a replay) and Stoke City in Round Four. However, in December in the midst of the power crisis, the Sky Blues came up against Manchester City in the League Cup Quarter Finals at Highfield Road. The 2-2 draw (a brace from Brian Alderson) sent them to a replay at Maine Road which they lost 4-2 in a game which was closer than the score suggests and in which Brian got another brace!
In the league the Sky Blues could not sustain their great start to the season and slipped to sixteenth in Division One by season’s end. Leeds United took the title by five points from Liverpool. The relegated trio (in descending order) were Southampton, Manchester United and, bottom club, Norwich City.
Thanks to CCFPA’s Mike Young (& Dean Nelson) for the images.
