Xabi Alonso saving this Liverpool flop simply doesn't add up

When Xabi Alonso was announced as the new manager of Real Madrid earlier this summer, a number of changes were expected to take place in the post Carlo Ancelotti era. The biggest changes have been with the philosophy and style of play, but also with the types of players in the squad.

We saw a number of veteran players of the old generation depart the club and new, younger players, who suit the Spaniard's play style better. Players like Luka Modrić and Lucas Vázquez have seen their time at Real Madrid come to an end, and players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Franco Mastantuono have arrived at the club as crucial parts of Xabi Alonso's squad.

More changes in the squad are no doubt expected to take place over the next year or two until the squad is [perfect from head to toe for Xabi Alonso](https://therealchamps.com/xabi-alonso-made-promise-endrick-real-madrid-fans-remember). The club always has their eyes on the transfer market, and it seems as though Xabi Alonso himself has asked the club to keep an eye on one of his former Bayer Leverkusen stars, and one of the most expensive transfers of all time.

Xabi Alonso hopes to turn this Liverpool flop from zero to hero again at Real Madrid

As being reported by Defensa Central (via [Madrid Universal](https://madriduniversal.com/xabi-alonso-asks-real-madrid-to-keep-an-eye-on-liverpools-e125-million-signing/)), reports suggest that Xabi Alonso could be interested in reuniting with his former Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, and the Spaniard has asked the club to keep an eye on the German's situation at Liverpool.

The German has had a horrid time since his arrival at Liverpool this summer for a mind-boggling €125 million, failing to register a goal or an assist through the first nine matches of the season. Wirtz joined off the back of tremendous seasons at Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso and has yet to find that for the Premier League side.

The report adds that Wirtz is unhappy at Anfield after his bad start to the season, and early speculation surrounding his time at Liverpool has already piqued the interest of Xabi Alonso. After all, Alonso is the man who got the best out of Florian Wirtz, and he could be looking to reunite with his star at Real Madrid.

While Wirtz's signing for Real Madrid would be yet another Galáctico transfer, the odds of it happening are slim to none. Liverpool would no doubt demand an incredibly high fee for Wirtz to try and make up lost revenue, a fee which Real Madrid wouldn't want to pay. Adding on top of that, the squad depth in the midfield, and Wirtz to Real Madrid, just doesn't make any sense.
