Garner highlights Everton ‘extra man’ boost

**James Garner believes Everton’s home support can be their secret weapon.**

Sunday’s [2-1 win over Crystal Palace](https://www.clickliverpool.com/sport/everton-fc/60735-everton-2-1-crystal-palace-three-talking-points-jack-grealish-charly-alcaraz-thierno-barry/) extended an unbeaten start at Hill Dickinson Stadium for David Moyes’ side to move them up to eighth in the Premier League.

Garner inadvertently sparked the Blues’ second-half fightback after he was booked for attempting to push back Yeremy Pino for a free kick which fired up supporters.

And the utility man feels that Evertonians have the potential to be an ‘extra man’ in the afterglow of ending the Eagles’ impressive 19-game unbeaten record.

“I think we’ve played better at home this season than we have away,” said Garner.

“That’s ultimately down to the new feeling of the ground and the fans do get behind you.

“As soon as you start getting on the front foot, it doesn’t even have to be creating chances or anything like that. It could just be pressing, tackling and stuff like that.

“When the crowd is with you, they are that extra man. I know it sounds cliche but they really are.

“Ultimately we’ve lost one in six in the league, I think you’re forgetting that.

“We’ve had a few draws but at the same time we’re unbeaten at home and we’ve been playing some really good football.

“I think we’ve been a bit unlucky not to win a few of the draws as well so we need to keep on playing the way we are and those results are going to keep coming.”

Garner has enjoyed his best form for Everton this season operating in a variety of roles including deputising at full-back including in the closing stage against Palace.

The midfielder believes that versatility could offer him an edge in a bid to force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s England plans ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

He added: “I think it definitely plays in my favour.

“I am very versatile. I can play pretty much every single position – I have played pretty much every single position for this club apart from striker and centre-back!

“But ultimately for me, it’s just to keep on playing consistently well, winning games on a weekend, showing that I am a natural winner and a half-decent player.”
