Super Bowl champ to serve 6-game suspension

Former Cleveland Browns star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will serve a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, he announced Wednesday.

Beckham, who is currently a free agent, announced his suspension on an episode of “The Pivot Podcast.” His suspension stems from his time last season with the Miami Dolphins, where he played nine games before being released in December.

Beckham, 32, said his failed drug test was unintentional and related to him seeking treatment for low testosterone levels.

“It is a serious thing when you get charged and someone says ‘You failed for PEDs,’” Beckham said. “I don’t take those words lightly. But it bothers me because, knowing deep down inside, I never failed. I never cheated.”

His suspension will take effect immediately and he will be ineligible to play until at least Week 12 this season.

In August, Beckham said he was “not done yet” with his NFL career and that he had received interest from several teams.

On “The Pivot Podcast,” Beckham mentioned one specific team that he would like to play for, if given the opportunity: his former Los Angeles Rams. Beckham played for the Rams under coach Sean McVay in 2021 and helped lead LA to winning Super Bowl LVI, 23-20, over the Cincinnati Bengals.

“I’ve got to go back with McVay. Take me home. Call the family, tell them that there is a number seven jersey we need to unretire for a year, a couple of games. I need that back.”

Beckham played 10 seasons in the NFL from 2014-24 after being drafted by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2014 Draft. He was named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and earned three consecutive Pro Bowl selections with the Giants before being traded to Cleveland in March 2019.

He played two-plus seasons in Cleveland before being released by the Browns in November 2021, and signed with the Rams days later. He also played one season for the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 before joining the Dolphins in 2024.

For his 10-year NFL career, Beckham Jr. has 575 receptions for 7,987 yards and 59 touchdowns in 119 games.
