The NFL slapped the Cowboys owner with a $250,000 fine after video showed him flipping off fans during Sunday’s win over the Jets. His excuse is that he meant to give a thumbs-up but put up the wrong show of hand. Not surprisingly, nobody’s buying it.

The incident went down at MetLife Stadium during Week 5. Jones was sitting in his luxury boxwhen cameras caught him raising his middle finger. The video spread like wildfire across social media after Cowboys 37-22 hard-fought win over the Jets. No way to spin this one.
Speaking on his usual Tuesday segment with 105.3 The Fan, the 82-year-old explained his side of the story. Hesaid, “That was unfortunate. That was kind of an exchange with our fans out in front of us.”

He then added, “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans out in front, not Jets fans, Cowboys fans.” According to him, it was all just a case of bad timing and overwhelming excitement.
“It was inadvertent on my part because that was right after we made our last touchdown and we were all excited about it,” the Cowboys boss continued. “There isn’t any antagonistic issue or anything like that. I just put up the wrong show on the hand.”
The league didn’t care about his excuse andhit him with the quarter-million dollar fine anyway. Now fans are also clapping back at him hard.
NFL Fans Aren’t Having Jerry’s Weak Excuse
The internet torched Jones for what many called the lamest cover story in recent memory. Fans lit up social media with brutal takes, with some labeling him a clear-cut liar.
One fanwrote, “Jerry Jones flipping off fans and calling it a ‘thumbs up’ might be the most honest thing the Cowboys have done all year.”
Anothernoted, “Oh you just know when the cowboys get eliminated this image will see recirculation.”
A third fanclaimed, “This is the 1st time in history a person has mistaken their thumb with their middle finger!”
The fourthadded, “Jerry is now our Bud Adams.”
The fifthremarked, “If that’s the case than I’d argue he has dementia and should sell the team.”
The sixthsaid, “Just own it bro it was hilarious.”
The seventh delivered the knockout punch,penning, “Lies Lies Lies. Jerry a liar.”
The Cowboys’ supporters have seen plenty of Jones’s extreme gestures over the years. But this one was quite different. Getting caught red-handed and then serving up a grade-school excuse? That’s a new low, even for Jerry World.
Jones has until Friday to appeal the fine, and multiple reports suggest he’ll challenge it. Folks are saying good luck to him with that appeal.
