Five Quick Facts Following the Chiefs Week 5 Loss to Jacksonville | Upon Further Review

2. Kansas City's 13 penalties on the night helped Jacksonville get back into it.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, Jacksonville erased that double-digit deficit due in large part to a season-high 13 penalties called against Kansas City. In fact, that figure represents the most penalties accepted against the Chiefs in a single game since Week 11 of the 2018 season.

Notably, when trailing by 14 points following the Chiefs' second touchdown drive, a pass-interference call extended a Jaguars' possession that otherwise would have ended with an incompletion on third down. Jacksonville went on to score a touchdown on the series, beginning a run of 21 unanswered points between the second and third quarters.

Penalties hurt the Chiefs at the end of the game, too. Kansas City appeared to have won the game with an interception on the Jaguars' final drive, but another pass-interference call wiped out the takeaway and instead set up Jacksonville's game-winning score.

"We obviously had 13 penalties to their four," said Head Coach Andy Reid. "[If] you have that many penalties [and] you give up field position, you can out-stat them to death, but it doesn't matter. It's the score that matters, and we've got to take care of business there."

3. Patrick Mahomes racked up 378 yards of offense.

Amidst the back-and-forth nature of Monday's game, Patrick Mahomes was brilliant. He completed 29-of-41 passes for 318 yards and a touchdown on the night while also rushing for another 60 yards and a score with his legs, moving the Chiefs into Jacksonville territory on seven of nine possessions. His 378 yards of offense were the fourth-most in a single game by any player this season.

Unfortunately, one of Mahomes' few mistakes on the evening resulted in a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown, turning a likely scoring opportunity into seven points for Jacksonville. Regardless, Mahomes certainly played well enough to win on Monday, it just didn't work out that way.
